Brandon Vera vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua: Winner Gets a Shot at Jon Jones
UFC president Dana White confirmed during a media conference call Monday that the winner of Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Brandon Vera will receive the next title shot with a win. The two meet in the main event of Saturday night's UFC on Fox: Shogun Vs. Vera card.
"The Vera-Rua winner gets the shot," White said. "Guys that are fighting on Fox are guys in line for world title shots."
Rua is a former UFC light heavyweight champion who lost the belt to current champion Jon Jones. "Bones" is set to defend the title in September against Dan Henderson at UFC 151.
"'Shogun' Rua just came off the Fight of the Year last year (with Henderson). He is probably one of the greatest fighters in the last decade," White said.
As for Vera, he knows that this position is something he received as a gift, adding, "it's almost like winning the lottery twice (having a title shot on the line and getting another chance to compete in the UFC)."
