Brandon Vera on Possibly Beating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua: "It Would Mean Redemption"

With one victory tonight, Brandon Vera can change his MMA history. Vera will face former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in the main event of UFC on Fox: Shogun Vs. Vera from Los Angeles.

After being released from the promotion, Vera earned a second chance thanks to a failed post-fight drug test by Thiago Silva. A win over Eliot Marshall has placed him in a position to become a title contender in the 205-pound division.

"The world," said Vera, when asked what a win over Rua would mean to him. "It would mean redemption. The good, the bad, the ugly; all the haters - I would be able to tell them to pick their finger. It would almost be as if I never left."

Vera once made a claim that he would be the UFC's heavyweight and light heavyweight champion at the same time. After a win over Frank Mir, "The Truth" appeared set to possibly achieve a championship. But, a string of losses - Vera went 3-5 with one no-contest between 2007 and '11 - left him searching.

Now, thanks to the opportunity given to him by the UFC, Vera's confidence is back, as he was asked how he feels the fight with Rua will end Saturday night.

"With my hand raised in the air at the end of the fight," Vera said.
