Dimitar Berbatov is finally starting to repay some of the £30 million that Manchester United shelled out two years ago. Berbatov has started this season in phenomenal form, scoring three goals already. The calmness of his finish as he scored his side’s third goal against Everton showed the confidence the Bulgarian is currently playing with. With Wayne Rooney otherwise engaged, Berbatov is currently his side’s number one striker.
Last season whenever Rooney was missing from the first team, Berbatov looked completely lost when asked to lead the line, but this campaign the 29-year-old has looked every bit a world class striker, with or without Rooney alongside him.
Although Alex Ferguson‘s overriding emotions after the Everton draw would have been a mixture of anger and sheer bafflement, one of the positives was the performance of Berbatov, who looked as dangerous all game as he has since the season began. Anyone who wants to place a football daily bet could do worse than backing him to score in any given match.. If United are going to regain the title from Chelsea this season then they are going to need both their main strikers producing regular goals. With Michael Owen, Javier Hernandez and Federico Macheda all waiting for any chance to take his spot, Berbatov will need to carry on his early season form to keep his place in the side.
Previously Berbatov’s laid back style, as well as his lack of regular goals, had left a number of fans frustrated.
This season though, those fans are appreciating the striker for his overall game. Although he has always shown his quality when it comes to setting up goals for his team, he is now showing the ability to score his share as well. It looks very likely that Berbatov will surpass last season’s tally of 12 league goals when this season ends. The Champions League betting tips suggest he should also tuck a few away in Europe.
There were times in the summer when it looked likely that Berbatov would be on his way out of Old Trafford. AC Milan and Real Madrid were both reportedly interested in signing the forward, but nothing materialised. Ferguson made it clear that he sees Berbatov as a major part of his plans for this season and beyond. Berbatov has gone some way to repaying the faith shown in him by his boss.
