Benson Henderson proved to one and all on Saturday night that he does in fact deserve his lightweight championship.
In the aftermath of his two showdowns against Frankie Edgar, many questioned whether Henderson would be able to hang with someone (sort of) his own size.
Apparently he can.
Henderson versus Nate Diaz was billed as a battle of contrasting styles – it wasn’t. A battle of contrasting styles implies that two styles are on display, and that one ultimately prevails. Diaz never got to the opportunity to showcase his. Henderson dominated his opponent from the very beginning, and ultimately, he proved more apt than anyone thought he would be going in at neutralizing every single strength Diaz had.
It’s back to the drawing board for Diaz. And for Henderson? Likely a showdown against either Anthony Pettis or Donald Cerrone.
