David Beckham has made it clear that he is looking for a short-term loan deal in another bid to boost his chances of a return to the England team. The LA Galaxy midfielder has ruled out a return to Milan, where he spent the previous two winters. Beckham hasn’t played for England since tearing his achilles tendon last March, ruling him out of the World Cup in South Africa.
Fabio Capello appeared to draw the curtain on the former captain’s England career before pulling a U-turn and declaring the midfielder still had a chance to prove his worth. A successful short-term spell back in the Premier League would certainly boost his chances of a recall. Beckham has always made it known that he wouldn’t be keen on coming back to England with any other team than United.
“Maybe one day I will come back here but I have always said that it will only be for Manchester United. I am not holding my breath on that one, but we will have to wait and see,” he said.
The rumours have already begun circulating regarding a return to the Premier League for Becks, with a nostalgic move to Manchester United one of the reports. Beckham spoke in glowing terms about his former club when he picked up his Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year.
A move back to Old Trafford does seem to be a fairly long shot but Sir Alex could do worse than have England’s most capped outfield player in and around his squad for a few months. As well as having Beckham’s proven world-class quality at his disposal, the younger players at the club would gain a great deal from training with him. The football betting tips also suggest he could offer United that something extra they need to win the title.
Fergie has shown he isn’t totally against the idea of signing relative veterans as short term solutions. Henrik Larsson was 36 when he joined United brought him to Old Trafford in 2007 for a successful couple of months. Although that move went down well with the fans, Beckham’s return would be ten times as bigger hit. With the football betting indicating the title race is very close heading into the new year, it could be the boost needed for United to start pulling away from their rivals at the top of the table.
