The Falcons have made another roster move this week. This time they have cut Lousaka Polite and have re-signed Mike Cox.
For a team that passes roughly 60% of the time, the Falcons sure have made some moves at FB this year. It started back in May when starter Ovie Mughelli became a salary cap casualty. In August, the Falcons put rookie Bradie Ewing on injured reserve and signed Lousaka Polite on the same day. At the end of training camp Mike Cox, who started five games for Atlanta in 2011, was cut as the Falcons decided to go with Polite at the FB position.
Eight games into the season, the Falcons record is perfect but they need a bit more out of their fullback position. Polite has played 30% of the offensive snaps in the last two games but his impact hasn't really been felt. Pat Yasinskas says that the change was made because Polite was not the dominant blocker they needed him to be.
Can Cox be the man? This isn't a season changing move but I think Cox will be a slight upgrade. Cox is familiar with the personnel on the team and should be able to mesh with the guys as long as he can sync up with Dirk Koetter's play calling.
