Atlanta Falcons Acquire Asante Samuel, Sign Him to a 3-Year Deal

After a lot of off and on discussions, the Atlanta Falcons have indeed traded a late round pick to acquire all pro defensive back, Asante Samuel.

This is a major move by the front office, and for what it cost Atlanta... a great move. The deal is for 3 years at 18.5 million. Atlanta talked him down to a little over 6 million a year. TD proves yet again, he is a wizard. Samuel wanted a new contract, but Philly wasn't able to pay him after bringing in two new corners last year. Asante has played in the NFL for 9 years, accumulating 52 interceptions and 9 defensive touchdowns. He is one of the best playmakers in the game today, and now, he will be suiting up in the Georgia Dome.

Samuel joining the Falcons gives new defensive coordinator Mike Nolan another toy to play with. The Falcons now can focus on drafting other needs this weekend. In other news, Brent Grimes signed his tender yesterday, whether or not this trade had anything to do with it, you can be the judge. This move will insert Grimes into the nickel, where his ball skills should rein him superior between the hashes. Grimes, Asante, and Robinson…this is a trio of corners that can be a cornerstone of Mike Nolan’s new defensive scheme, Atlanta fans; it is time to RISE UP!

How do you feel about this deal? Was he worth the late round pick? Are we overpaying too many corners? Or, is this exactly what Atlanta needed to do to put themselves over their playoff woes?
