MMA Analysis: Brendan Schaub vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 134

Publish date:

It was announced earlier today that TUF 10 Runner up Brendan Schaub has indeed been granted one wish. Schaub will welcome PRIDE Heavyweight Legend Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira back to the Octagon as a part of the UFC 134 Pay Per View festivities this August for the promotion’s long awaited return to Brazil.

We last saw Big Nog back in February of last year where he took on Cain Velasquez in the Main Event of UFC 110: Noguiera vs. Velasquez. Velasquez only needed a couple of minutes of work that night to stop Nogeuira and earn himself his title shot against Brock Lesnar, later on in the year.

While Nogueira has been on the shelf due to knee and hip issues, Schaub has put together an impressive 4-0 run inside of the Octagon. His latest TKO victory over Mirko Cro Cop this past march in Jersey earned him Knockout of the Night honors and apparently the luxury of choosing his next opponent.

A win for Schaub likely catapults him into the bottom half of most writers’s Top Ten Heavyweight Lists and could earn him a shot at the winner of The UFC 130 Co Main Event later this month when Frank Mir takes on the only man to hold a win over Schaub in Roy Nelson.

Should Big Nog come out the victor on his home soil, fans of the veteran will have one more tale to add to an impressive story book of a career that luckily for us will add another chapter come August 27th during UFC 134: Silva vs. Okami.
