Nobody really had much faith in Antonio Silva heading into his UFC on FX 5 showdown versus Travis Browne. For all of his obvious physical advantages, Silva had been something of a disappointment ever since his victory over Fedor Emelianenko. Plus, Browne’s freakish athleticism and general dominance up to that point seemed like too much for Bigfoot to overcome.
Yeah, it wasn’t.
From the very beginning, Silva didn’t seem fazed by Browne. Conversely, Browne seemed to be off his game from the getgo. Who knows – maybe the pressure associated with being a favorite on this sort of stage got to him. Either way, things started off poorly when he got called for inexplicably holding onto the cage following an attempted takedown, and they only got worse when he hurt his left knee. From there it was only a matter of time.
A few seconds later, Silva destroyed Browne with a series of punches and collected his first victory since February 2011.
