Due to Ryan Chiappe’s injury that has forced him to back out, a new opponent has been tabbed to take on Jamie “The Ghost” Toney at MFC 33: Collision Course.
Riding a four-fight winning streak, Andrew Buckland (15-8) moves in to take a shot at Toney (15-7) in a featured bout on the main card airing live on HDNet Fights from the Mayfield Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta on Friday, May 4. The six-fight main card, topped by the MFC welterweight title matchup pitting Ryan “The Kid” McGillivray against Nathan “Soul Force” Coy, launches at 10 p.m. ET/8 p.m. MT/7 p.m. PT (check local listings for channel designation).
During his current run of success, Buckland has picked up wins over Keto Allen and Advin Omic – both via submission. Buckland’s six-year career boasts eight wins by submission and five via knockout.
Buckland has fought five times under the MFC banner, most notably being subbed in the first round by John Alessio at MFC 21 back in May 2009. The 30-year-old, who now fights out of Nanaimo, B.C., has also dropped verdicts to Joe Christopher and Ford Robertson in the MFC, but does hold stoppage victories over Sean Wright (second-round submission at MFC 12) and Allen Hope (first-round submission) at Heat XC 4.
Toney, who fights out of the Bas Rutten camp in Los Angeles, California, is coming off a three-round verdict over Kyle Jackson at MFC 32. The wild bout between Toney and Jackson is an early frontrunner for the MFC’s 2012 Fight of the Year.
The West Virginia native has won six of his last seven fights, dropping only a first-round TKO outcome to Dhiego Lima at MFC 30. Toney holds six knockouts and seven submissions on his nine-year career log.
