2015 NFL Draft Rumors: Kurt Warner: 'Jameis Way Head Of Those Other Guys'

Jameis Winston is projected by most experts to go first overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He made his case even stronger after impressing everybody at Florida State’s pro day Tuesday. His only downside is his off field immaturity.

“Strictly from a football standpoint, I don’t think there’s any question [Winston is the top prospect],” former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner said. “What I’ve seen and the extent to what I’ve seen, based off the other guys and the limited extent that I’ve seen as far as reading coverages and making certain throws and being asked to really carry a team, I’d put Jameis way ahead of those other guys.

“But then you have everything else you have to enter in," he added. "That’s where I think it becomes closer and closer and closer.”

Winston and Marcus Mariota are competing to be the first quarterback taken in the draft, and much of the reason why Mariota is so close to Winston is because of his maturity on and off the field. The two-time MVP, Warner, said that some players mature going from college to the pros, but some don’t.

“That’s the dilemma you face,” Warner said. “A guy that’s done it but has some other issues. A guy that hasn’t necessarily done it but seems to be kind of a prototypical franchise quarterback from that standpoint. We’ll see how it plays out....

“I’m glad I don’t have to answer those questions, especially when I’ve got the first or second pick of the draft," he added.

We will have to wait and see who Roger Goodell calls to the podium with the first overall pick in Chicago April 30.
