Just last week a report came out from an anonymous source comparing Jameis Winston to JaMarcus Russell, who was a complete bust in the NFL.
"With Jameis Winston I see JaMarcus Russell," an anonymous NFL executive said. "Isn't it interesting? I see the body. I see the lack of focus. I see the same coach and system. Only Winston's not as good an athlete and his arm isn't as strong as JaMarcus'. We're looking at another guy that's a product of the system and has tremendous athletes around him."
Not only is this executive comparing Winston to Russell, but he went as far as saying that Winston is not as good an athlete and his arm is weaker, reports CBS Sports. Others have talked about how irrelevant a comment is when it doesn’t have a name attached to it.
"I think it's rude," said Mark Dominik, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager, on "The Sedano Show" on ESPN radio on April 24, reports JoeBucsFan.com. "I think it's completely off base to call him JaMarcus Russell. I just don't see the comparison.
“But from a football standpoint, from a football intelligence, from a competitor, from a leader, it ain't close. It's embarrassing. For my personal opinion, whatever GM said that, probably should not be a GM, quite frankly."
Mixed feelings have surrounded Winston in the weeks approaching the draft, but most experts have him going first pick overall to the Buccaneers. The only way to be completely sure of what is going to happen is to wait until April 30 and see which name NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell calls first.
