2012 Olympics Video: Missy Franklin, Allison Schmitt Lead U.S. Women to Gold in 4x200-Meter Relay

The 2012 Olympics have admittedly produced mixed results for U.S. swimmers thus far, and those mixed results have created a certain amount of negativity about what lays ahead.

Not a ton, but definitely a noticeable amount.

Well, on Wednesday, Missy Franklin, Allison Schmitt and the rest of the U.S. women’s swim team shut up the critics once and for all in the in the 4x200-meter freestyle.

They crushed the competition.

Not only did they take the gold, they did so in record-setting fashion. The American women did their damage in 7:42:92 – the best time ever in this event. And they absolutely smoked the Australians and French who finished in second with 7:44.41 and third with 7:47.49, respectively.

Does this wipe away all of the swimming-related disappointments from this year’s games? (Most of which have come from the men’s side.) No. But it’s still really, really, really great to see.
