2012 Olympics Video: Lazaro Borges’ Pole Breaks in the Middle of His Vault

Pole vaulting hasn’t gotten a lot of love at the 2012 Olympics, but that sort of changed on Wednesday when Lazaro Borges became a viral sensation.

As the Cuban made his first attempt of the London Games at 5.35 meters, his pole shattered – sending both him and the disjointed pieces of that pole flying. Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the incident.

It wasn’t as bad as what happened to German weightlifter Matthias Steiner, but it was still pretty scary.

Check it out:

Sadly, Borges did not qualify for the final.
