It would have been awful if the Canadian women’s soccer team had come away with no medals following their heartbreaking loss to USA two days ago.
Fortunately, that didn’t happen.
On Thursday morning, with the bronze medal on the line, Diana Matheson scored a clutch goal in the 92nd minute that propelled her team to one of the more memorable victories of this year's London Games.
"I have no idea what happened. I can't remember it," Matheson said afterward (via the Vancouver Sun). "I think the ball came down the left and I was in the right place at the right time. The ball was right there, the net was basically open, it definitely was in slow motion.
"It felt like a dream. It feels unreal right now."
Obviously this wasn’t the medal that Canada wanted – but coming away with something has to feel good.
