2012 Olympics: LeBron James, Kevin Durant Lead Team USA Past Tony Parker, France

Publish date:

The game started out close. France had a buzzer-beating three to end the first quarter and Team U.S.A. was in a precarious position as they only led, 22-21.

That 11-0 run (which consisted of threes by LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Chris Paul) at the start of the 2nd ended all doubt. And it kept pouring on as Kevin Love and Kevin Durant led the offensive onslaught for the rest of the first half. Team U.S.A. outscored the French team, 30-15, in the second quarter.

France couldn't get anything going after the first quarter... and Tony Parker (wearing goggles because of an eye injury) didn't look like himself for the most part. They only had 8 assists in the entire game (so much for the fundamental ball movement by international teams) and were outrebounded by the Americans, 47-33. They also shot a dismal 2 for 23 behind the arc. It certainly didn't help that they didn't have Joakim Noah's interior presence and Mickael Pietrus' wing play on both ends. The refs seem to be calling a foul every time Team U.S.A. reached but those calls disappeared once America was blowing out France in the second half.

LeBron James showed his versatility throughout the first three quarters he played. He finished with 9-5-8. Durant led all scorers with 22 points and Kevin Love had 14.

Team U.S.A. faces Tunisia next on Tuesday.
