This one’s got the makings of the game of the week if you ask me. The NFC West leading 49ers go into New Orleans following their Monday night shellacking of the Bears, and I expect their momentum from that to carry through into this game. This one won’t be short of storylines that’s for sure. The 49ers could be starting Colin Kaepernick, it’s a rematch from last year’s playoffs, and the Saints are surging and taking a run at a wild card spot. This should be a very fun game to watch.
Both offenses should have themselves a good day. Drew Brees and the Saints are playing great lately, and playing against the Saints defense it doesn’t really matter who the Niners start at QB. I’m sure their third string could put up 400 yards. The Saints could also be getting a huge boost on Sunday is Darren Sproles is cleared to play. The versatile back always seems to find his way into the endzone and has very quickly become a favorite safety blanket of Brees. An elite checkdown option I dare say.
Regardless of who the Niners start, they should have themselves a day to remember on offense. Logic says Jim Harbaugh should give the nod to Smith, but based on all the info that’s come my way so far I think they’re probably going to start Kaepernick. This move could work out just fine for the 49ers, especially since they are playing the Saints. Kaepernick is a more dynamic, and explosive option than Smith, and I’m sure he’ll play just as well this week as he did last. Especially if he can keep getting the ball to Vernon Davis, the way he did against the Bears.
These defenses couldn’t be any further apart in terms of talent, ability, coaching, personnel, and execution so don’t expect the Saints to get in the Niners way regardless of who’s at quarterback. Drew Brees will receive no such favors from the Niners. I’m actually thinking he might even look human on Sunday.
This should be the more exciting of all the NFC West’s teams matchups. As the Saints desperately try to claw their way back into playoff contention, I’m thinking they might be hitting a speed bump with these 49ers. I’m taking the Niners on the road to win this one 24-17.
