2012 NFL Mock Draft: Michael Floyd

On quick routes, Floyd runs them crisp with defined cuts. His precision on these slants or hitches give him his separation. If the defense gives him an inch he will fully take advantage of it. He has super glue for hands. He uses his bigger frame to his advantage. Michael is able to out jump smaller corners and he excels at high pointing the ball. Anything around him he’s capable of snagging. He’ll make some highlight film catches. The quarterback play at Notre Dame really limited what he could do.

Floyd doesn’t have great speed so he has to rely on his routes and size. He tends to turn early on in the longer routes to see what the quarterback is doing. This throws off his technique and even slows his routes. He should also be breaking more tackles and thrive in yards after contact. This isn’t the case as he doesn’t use his 6’3 230 pounds as a physical weapon to get off / out of tackles.

  • Ht: 6’3
  • Wt: 227
  • 40 Time: 4.59

He’ll definitely have a role in the NFL but the coaches that are looking for big play, number 1 type receivers won’t be as high on him in the early part of the first round. Floyd is best suited in a role where he can come in and play opposite of the primary target. The offense can use his route running underneath and his leaping ability and hands on down field isolation throws are redzone targets. I’d draft him with the plan of being TJ Houshmandzadeh / Anquan Boldin early on (opposite of Larry Fitzgerald & Chad Johnson) and attempt to develop him into Vincent Jackson.
