2012 NFL Draft: Indianapolis Colts Select Andrew Luck with No. 1 Pick

Publish date:

With the first overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected Andrew Luck out of Stanford.

Luck is a fantastic quarterback, obviously, but he’s going to a pretty awful situation down there in Indianapolis. On both offense and defense this team is porous, and the hope is that everyone involved -- ownership, management and fans -- will be patient with him as he tries to restore some sort of legitimacy to this franchise. It won’t happen in a single year. One guy, no matter how talented he is, can’t change a team’s fortunes that quickly. Cam Newton showed us that much last season. (Then again, Peyton Manning sort of disproves that.)

At the end of the day, this seems to be a perfect fit for all involved. Luck’s surgical, consistent, prototypical NFL quarterback-style coincides perfectly with what the Colts have grown to know and love over the last decade. And Luck, for his part, will enjoy not having that Washington spotlight shined on him.
