2012 NBA Mock Draft V5.0: Picks 24-30

Publish date:

The last portion of the 2012 NBA Draft will probably be the least exciting. Of course, given the craziness we’ve seen thus far, that’s not much of a slight.

Up to this point, the most interesting thing about Thursday’s big event has been the Houston Rockets and their many, many moves. Any which way you want to slice it, though, the Rockets won’t have much of an impact on squads picking in the nos. 24-30 range. This portion of the proceedings is reserved for quality teams who are coming off strong campaigns, or not-so-quality teams with a bevy of picks. Either way, Houston likely won’t try to swap places with anyone here.

The teams picking at nos. 24-30 are: Cleveland Cavaliers, Memphis Grizzlies, Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls and Golden State Warriors.

Of that group, Cleveland, Memphis, Oklahoma and Golden State have all been involved in trade rumors of some sort. Conversely, Indiana, Miami and Chicago all seem more or less content in their current positions.

The Cavaliers have reportedly looked for a way to package their No. 24 pick and something else in order to move up in the draft order, but so far nobody has taken the bait. Ditto with Golden State. Memphis was reportedly shopping both their selection and certain players in an effort to move up, however, now it seems as though they’ll just stay pat. OKC, unquestionably, was involved in the most salacious rumor of anyone else picking here – James Harden for the Charlotte Bobcats’ No. 2 overall pick. Chances are it won’t happen but, man, if it did, that would be huge.

As always, here are some of the more interesting storylines to keep an eye on in this segment of the draft: does Memphis ultimately go with Tony Wroten or Draymond Green? Will Doron Lamb sneak into the end of the first round? How Does the Derrick Rose situation impact Chicago’s drafting strategy? What will the Thunder do? Should Miami draft a raw big man, or the best player available?

We analyze all that and more in our preview of picks Nos. 24-30.
