Not that there was ever any doubt, but the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide finished Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in the final BCS rankings released on Sunday.
Back on Nov. 5, the Tigers defeated the Crimson Tide 9-6 in what was billed as the “Game of the Century.” The lack of excitement produced as a result of that game made many wonder whether or not a pairing of these two schools was ideal for the marquee showdown of the college football season. In the end, though, the powers that be decided that the two best teams in the country deserved an opportunity to prove who the best is, truly – scoring be damned.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys had a small outside shot at earning the No. 2 seed following a dominant 44-10 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners Saturday night but, ultimately, it was deemed that their strength of schedule didn’t match up to Alabama’s.
