Start ‘em Sit ‘em is our weekly look at favorable and unfavorable match-ups and how they might affect lineup decisions for your fantasy football team. Other than a few elite players, no one should be classified as a must start every week, and analyzing match-ups can go a long way to giving your team a weekly edge. If you have any start’em sit’em questions feel free to post them in our Fantasy Football Forum.
Matt Schaub HOU vs. TEN: Start’em
Schaub has been playing much better as of late and he threw for close to 400 yards against the Ravens on Monday night. The guy he has been throwing to is Andre Johnson and not sure if you heard but he got into a little bit of a scruff with a Titans corner last time they played. Andre is going to be motivated and since the Texans are out of the playoff hunt we think the team will rally around their stud wideout and game plan for him to be targeted all day long.
Jay Cutler CHI vs. MIN: Risky Start
The Bears/Vikings game will be played outdoors since the Dome is still not ready and that does not bold well for anyone in this game. The secondary for the Vikings is pretty much awful but we saw how Cutler faired last time in a cold bad weather game and that might be the case again this week. Just be a little careful with Cutler this week and ensure to know the weather report before plugging him into your line-up.
David Garrard JAC vs. IND: Pick-up and Play
Year after year Garrard always is an unsung fantasy gem for quarterbacks and this year is no different. Mix his great play, with a bad Colts D, and a chance to clinch the division and you get a great pick-up and play quarterback this week. For all of your Rodgers owners grab Garrard in case (and it looks very likely) Rodgers does not go.
LeGarrette BlountTB vs. DET : Start’em
We have had a ton of questions about Blount in the forums and yes he has been up and down and is a little bit of scary start in the second round of the playoffs but this match-up is too good to keep him your bench. The Lions give up roughly 5 yards per carry and Blount is a tough guy to take down. We believe he is a great flex play in any format this week.
Ryan Torain WAS vs. DAL: Spot Start
Rex Grossman is going to start for the Skins this week, which is good news for the Dallas defense but also good news for Ryan Torain. Our guess is the Skins will do everything in their power to have a good run game to be able to open up lanes for Grossman in the passing game. One more small reason to like Torain this week is the fact he rushed for close to 200 yards one week ago coming off an injury. Our guess is that he is healthy.
Tim Hightower ARZ vs. CAR: Spot Start
He has been a monster the last few games and this week he gets a defense that has allowed 8 rushing touchdowns in their last 3 games. There is still a very very outside chance Wells steals touches from him but it is well worth the risk due to this match-up.
Greg Jennings GB vs. NE: Risky Start
The only reason he is here is because it looks like Rodgers will not play on Sunday. With that said Jennings is always one play away from having a big day so you might have to start him simply due to that fact. Again if Rodgers starts he is a top five wideout play, if not, we would put him just inside of the top 20, which might make him benchable for some teams.
Dwayne Bowe KC vs. STL: Start’em
He has had two tough games in a row and we are sure a ton of owners are going to be benching him this week but not so fast. If Matt Cassel starts the Rams do not have anyone that can check Bowe and this is a huge game for the Chiefs. Again this is all depending on who starts are quarterback but if Cassel does we think Bowe becomes a must start.
Kenny Britt TEN vs. HOU: Pick-up and play
Britt came back last week and did not blow anyone away with his final fantasy numbers for the week but final numbers does not always tell the story. Britt looked like he was 100% healthy and this week he gets the Texans. Now we write this every single week but it has yet to really let us down. Start anyone that throws or catches a football against the Texans. So a healthy Britt against this secondary makes him a really sneaky play this week.
Owen Daniels HOU vs. TEN: Pick-up and Play
Daniels had 11 targets last week and looked good on the field. It is not quite safe to say he is back and fully recovered but if you are having tight end issues he is a great risk/reward play this week.
Dustin Keller NYJ vs. PIT: Sit’em
Keller just has not been productive for a long time now and this week the Jets travel to Pittsburgh. We expect a low scoring game and Keller to have to block more than normal to give a struggling Sanchez more time to throw.
Atlanta ATL vs. SEA: Pick-up and Play
Seattle does play much better at home but they are a team that needs a run game to develop to have a chance to win. The Falcons are good run defense so our thought here is the Falcons stop the run making the Seahawks offense stand still this week.
New England NE vs. GB: Pick-up and Play
New England’s defense has been incredible for the last few weeks but is really a good play because Rodgers is most likely going to miss Sunday’s game. After Rodgers went down last week the Packers had a really tough time moving the ball against the Lions so one would think it will be the same story against the Pats this week without him again.
