A Texas judge ordered on Thursday that Jeff Younger is entitled to provide a say in his seven-year-old son James’s gender-transition process.
According to reports, Judge Kim Cooks gave Younger joint conservatorship over his son with mother Anne Georgulas.
Reports revealed that Georgulas had previously insisted on James’s gender transition, and was supported by therapists and counselors who testified on her behalf that he is transgender.
In addition to the aforementioned details, a jury had previously ruled that Younger could not prevent Georgulas from letting their son change his gender.
When Younger and Georgulas separated a few years ago, Georgulas was able to retain exclusive rights and duties over their two children. As for Younger, he was only given limited custody by the court.
Georgulas reportedly stated that their seven-year-old son started to identify himself as a girl. As a matter of fact, he was even asking for a girls’ toy from McDonald’s and began wearing dresses.
Due to this sudden change in her son's actions, Georgulas was advised by an LGBT family therapist to start “affirming” her son by calling him “Luna.” On the other hand, the boy’s pediatrician told Georgulas to visit the GENecis clinic at Children’s Hospital Center, which offers puberty suppression and hormone therapy.
However, Younger contended that their son was happy to be a boy and that undergoing a gender transition would be unhealthy for him. This is one of the main reasons why he doesn’t want to approve the gender-transition process.
Furthermore, Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that the state attorney general and Department of Family and Protective Services had begun investigations into the case.
As part of Judge Cooks’s decision, Younger will be subject to a gag order concerning the case, which means that Younger’s blog regarding his son will be taken down.
