YouTube Pulls Live Stream Of Giraffe Birth For Nudity (Video)

YouTube temporarily pulled a live-stream video (below) of a pregnant giraffe, April, in labor at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York.

The owner of the park, Jordan Patch, explained the situation on Facebook on Feb. 23, notes Mashable:

In a little bit over twelve hours, we have seen 20 to 30 million views of our live giraffe cam here in Animal Adventure Park outside of Binghamton, New York, in Harpersville. Now, unfortunately, with that viral spread that we've gained, that popularity, this is the perfect example of why we can't have nice things.

For the millions of you that have been tuning in to take witness of this educational experience of a live giraffe birth, there is a handful of extremists and animal right activists that may not agree with us, and that's okay, but have unfortunately reported our YouTube cam as sexually explicit or nude content, which has made for its removal from YouTube...

So, instead of sitting behind a keyboard or holding up protest signs, I encourage the animal rights activists: Get behind conservation. We're all on the same team. We want the best for these animals, and we would love to have them in their natural environment again some day. But until we can control the destruction of natural habitat and curb poaching, that is not going to happen. So if you want to help animals, help them in that way. Conserve them. Conserve their natural environments.

Patch insisted there was no nudity or pornography on the giraffe cam, which was reinstated by YouTube.

Mashable reached out to YouTube, and was sent a link to the social media giant's community guidelines. YouTube reviews videos that have been flagged by its community, and there is an appeals process.

The giraffe cam has been posted below, but readers should know there have been interruptions in the video. It's possible that activists or others are still flagging the content, so readers may have to search on YouTube for new feeds with this search term or similar term: "Animal Adventure Park Giraffe Cam." Readers should look for a "live" notation on the page.

According to the Animal Adventure Park Giraffe Cam/YouTube page, April is having her fourth calf, which will likely weigh around 150 pounds, and stand 6 feet tall.

If all goes well, the calf's front hooves will appear first, and then the snout.

The animal park says it will have a contest to name the calf.

After 6 to 10 months with mom, the calf will go to another animal facility for breeding to avoid incest at the Animal Adventure park.
