An Indian man broke the Guinness World Record for longest fingernails, after 63 years of neglecting to clip his own (video below).
Shridar Chillal made his way into the book of world records by growing the nails on his left hand to a length of 358.1 inches — nearly 30 feet, Huffington Post reported. His thumbnail alone measures 6.5 feet.
According to Chillal, the nails are extremely breakable and cause him to have to exercise extreme caution during sleep.
“I can’t move much, so every half an hour or so I wake up and move my hand to the other side of the bed,” he told Guinness World Records
Chillal revealed that his decision not to cut his nails was made thanks to an incident involving a teacher he had as a child.
“When I was a school boy, we were once beaten badly by our teacher because my friend broke his nail,” he said.
“The teacher had grown a very long nail," he added. "We asked him why he had beaten us so much just for breaking his nail. He said we would not understand it as we had never grown long nails. After that, we took it as a challenge to grow our own nails."
