Photo Of Patriotic Postman Goes Viral

As Carole Chase-Draughan drove in the funeral procession for her father, a World War II veteran, she saw a post office worker standing in the rain with his hat under his arm as a mark of respect, WEAR reported.

“Whoever this wonderfully patriotic postman is, I would love to just thank him for his respect, during the steady rain on Wednesday afternoon as the funeral motorcade for my WWII Veteran father passed him,” Chase-Draughan captioned the photo, which she posted on Facebook. “This is what respect looks like!”

Chase-Draughan’s photo has gone viral since it was posted on Feb. 4, garnering more than 53,000 likes and 27,000 shares.

The postman has been tentatively identified as Glenn Corbett of Pensacola, Florida, but his name has not been confirmed. “The respect you displayed at my Daddy's funeral procession truly touched my heart,” Chase-Draughan wrote in a comment.

Once Corbett was identified as the respectful mail man, many locals offered their own stories of his kindness. “He's off work today, one of the elderly [customers] on our route passed away last week and he's going to pay his respects, on his day off. This is a good guy all around!,” wrote Kelley Steward, who claimed to be one of Corbett’s coworkers.

Rachel Cox wrote: “Not sure if he's still involved, but for a long time Glenn helped coordinate the Stamp Out Hunger food drive for Manna Food Pantries. He's not only patriotic, but he's incredibly compassionate and really cares about this community! Way to go Glenn!”

Chase-Draughan later wrote that her father, a veteran paratrooper with the U.S. Army, would have been touched by the gesture.  “It was a selfless display of respect and my Father would have been proud that he had not been tormented and anguished for 75 years over his part in the hellish acts of war, in vain,” she wrote.
