Today Is The 'Saddest Day Of The Year', An Equation Explains Why

According to an equation developed by a university professor, today is “Blue Monday”, the saddest day of the year.

Blue Monday’s origin dates back to 2005, when travel company, Sky Travel, hired Cliff Arnall, a former professor at Cardiff University, to create an equation that determines the year’s most depressing day. The results? Jan. 19 is, in fact, the saddest day of the year.

The equation uses six factors to calculate the results, including weather, debt, time since Christmas, time since failing New Year’s Resolutions and low motivational levels. All of these factors determined that today is indeed particularly sad for people worldwide.

Despite Arnall's findings, his equation is widely disputed by scientists.
