When President Donald Trump tweets (or speaks), he typically hints at details, but leaves them up to the imagination. This rhetorical technique seems to have backfired in a recent tweet.
“Big increase in traffic into our country from certain areas, while our people are far more vulnerable, as we wait for what should be EASY D!” Trump tweeted on Feb. 8. While "Easy D" may be the president's shorthand for "easy decision," some people have read it as a more lewd abbreviation.
“Just think: somewhere right now, two White House staffer are discussing how to tell the President of the United states what ‘Easy D’ means,” a twitter user commented, notes Us Weekly.
"D" is often used as a slang reference to a certain part of the male anatomy.
"I think the one thing uniting the country [right now] is that none of us, regardless of political affiliation, knows what 'Easy D' is," wrote Lily Herman, a writer for Teen Vogue, notes the BBC.
"Grindr; when you want that Easy D," actor Zach Braff tweeted, referencing the gay dating app Grindr.
"'easy d' is an asian mother's worst nightmare," Tina Nguyen, a writer for Vanity Fair, tweeted, notes Mediaite.
"Hey, Dum-Dum. Ask a grownup to show you what 'EASY D' means at the urban dictionary websites. #ClownPresident," Keith Olbermann, a political reporter, tweeted.
While the president's tweet was most likely focusing on the continued controversy of his executive order banning immigrants from seven predominantly-Muslim countries, the internet found a way to create its own alternative controversy.
