Scott Baio Endorses Trump: 'I Understand Him'

On March 20, actor and television director Scott Baio endorsed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“It’s very simple,” Baio told Fox News when asked why he supports Trump, according to Fortune. “When he speaks, I understand him. He speaks like I speak. He also expressed his frustration with Washington saying that he wants the anti-establishment candidate to go in and ‘blow it up.'”

Baio, who is best known for his roles as Chachi Arcola on “Happy Days” and the titular character in “Charles in Charge,” is an ardent Republican supporter who has traditionally endorsed GOP candidates. Recently, however, he has broken with the Republican Party and declared himself a Conservative Independent.

During his Fox News interview, Baio added that he wanted a candidate that will "relentlessly, relentlessly attack [Democratic presidential candidate] Hillary Clinton."

Baio himself has previously landed in hot water for attacking a female political figure.

In 2010, Baio tweeted an unflattering picture of First Lady Michelle Obama with the caption “WOW He wakes up to this every morning," implying that President Barack Obama should be unhappy with his wife’s appearance, Huffington Post reported at the time. After posting the picture, Baio began receiving threats and comments alleging that he was a racist and telling him to kill himself.

“For New followers: I POST A LOT OF JOKES WITH PICS,” Baio wrote on Twitter to defend himself. “They are JUST that, a joke. NOT targeting anyone. Laughter IS the best medicine.”

He also said he was not racist, citing his black friends as well as his work with black actors to prove his dedication to racial equality.

“If I’m racist, don’t think I would have Directed shows like The Parkers & The Wayans Bros. or worked 41 eps w/ Victoria Rowell on D.Murder,” Baio wrote.
