Restaurant's Response To Review Goes Viral (Photos)

The owner of a New York City bar in the city’s Financial District hit back after the establishment received a negative review on Yelp on Jan. 12.

Yelp allows users, often called Yelpers, to write reviews and rate restaurants based on a five-star system.

User Megan B. gave The Iron Horse NYC one star in an assessment posted on Jan. 12.

Megan B. wrote on Yelp:

“Wouldn't recommend this to eat or for a quiet drink. I met some friends here at 3pm in the afternoon and the music was so loud we couldn't hear each other.  The service was terrible just to get a drink at the bar. The food was also terrible.”

Business owners are able to respond to reviews left on Yelp.

User Zbigniew S., who owns The Iron Horse, replied on the website on Jan. 13:

“I read other reviews you posted on Yelp for places you have also visited. It seems you like quiet coffee shops and fancy food, none of which we have ever advertised to provide.

"So if you're going to complain, I was hoping it would be about something that we actually advertise that we provide. We have four stars on Yelp, but it's not because our food will knock your socks off. The four stars are there because most of our customers come in looking for a fun time and to get away from the mundane of the every day, while enjoying a simple, decent meal at a low price. I give you 1 star as you are terrible at finding bars and restaurants that suit your tastes.”

A screenshot of the review and its comeback was posted on Reddit a few days later, where it has garnered more than 800 comments in four days. The Imgur image had been viewed more than 1.4 million times and received more than 120 comments in four days, reports Daily Mail.

While the top-rated comment on Reddit is praising the establishment, some commenters were not as impressed.

User Henchmanx24x wrote: “I mean that's a good response but it's not really funny at all.”

Gargantuan_Dong replied: “I believe the service was terrible after that response. Which is still a very valid concern i'd have no matter what type of atmosphere i was going for.”

On Jan. 16, The Iron Horse NYC shared the screenshot and the bar's Yelp link on its Facebook page.

“Some people just have no idea that every bar and restaurant is different, in our case, VERY different,” the bar posted. “Those individuals should do a little research before confusing The Iron Horse for a quiet coffee shop serving fancy food.”
