A server at a restaurant in Frankfort, Illinois, was left stunned when he received a $1,000 tip from a generous customer.
Brendan Motill, a server at Smokey Barque in downtown Frankfort, was in the middle of a slow day at work when he began chatting with a customer about life as well as his recent move to town. The conversation lasted less than 10 minutes.
Motill later gave the man his bill, which totaled $20.31, and the unidentified customer gave him his credit card to pay for the meal.
“I hope it goes through!” the man joked. Motill then realized why he'd said that — a $1,000 tip.
“He left me the tip, and by the time I got it, he was gone,” he said. “Very humble. Left before I could even thank him. I was speechless.”
Along with the generous tip was a note thanking Motill for a job well done.
“You’re doing a great job as a server,” the note read. “I don’t know what your hopes and dreams are in this life, but I hope this tip helps.
"My hope is that people were more peaceful to each other. The world can be so negative, I commit random acts of kindness to let others know there can be another way.”
Motill was so stunned by the tip that he showed it to another server to make sure it was real.
“It was really emotional,” he said. “I had to take a second and calm down.”
Motill said he plans to use the money for college, where he will study accounting.
