A President Donald Trump supporter was booted off of a United Airlines flight after causing a nearly 5-hour delay.
The incident occurred on May 21 at Shanghai Pudong International Airport, the Daily Mail reported. An elderly Caucasian man donning a "Make America Great Again" hat reportedly refused to get out of another passenger's seat during boarding.
The flight was supposed to leave for Newark, New Jersey, at 3:44 p.m. But because of the disruptive passenger, the flight didn't leave until 8:44 p.m.
Several passengers recorded videos of the commotion with their cell phones. When the passenger was finally escorted off of the plane with his fellow travelers, people could be heard chanting "lock him up," a clever ode to the "lock her up" chants commonly heard during Trump's campaign rallies regarding former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The flight had to be rerouted to San Francisco to pick up a new crew.
According to United Airlines, the passenger grew increasingly disruptive when flight attendants asked him to vacate another passenger's seat. The man also asked to be bumped to first class, a man whose father was on board flight 187 told KNTV. His request was reportedly denied.
United Airlines spokesman Jonathan Guerin said the passenger “refused to comply with crew member instructions and became increasingly disruptive when asked to deplane the aircraft”.
The passenger then walked to the rear of the plane and allegedly blocked access to his row of seats. All passengers were forced to exit the plane and return to the gate.
The man finally agreed to leave the plane "on his own accord," United said. That's when his fellow passengers began chanting "lock him up."
The incident went viral all throughout social media.
"Already delayed an hour coming out of Shanghai to EWR when an older man in my row with a 'Make America Great Again' hat decides to make a ruckus and delay everybody else," wrote one Facebook user. "He insists that, because he couldn't get an upgrade, he's entitled to all three seats next to him even though they're assigned to somebody else.
"Captain, crew, and airport staff come over. Man threatens that they'll have to drag him off the plane.
"He finally relents, but not before berating some female passengers and crew, calling one passenger 'Hillary' (lol) and 'lesbian.'
"Props to the United 87 crew for handling it professionally."
It is unknown at this time if the passenger is facing any criminal charges.
