Parents Warn Others Not To Buy Hair-Matting Toy (Video)

Parents across the nation are warning others about a toy to avoid this holiday season (video below).

Bunchems Mega Pack consists of colorful balls that stick together to create a variety of 3D constructions, such as animals and cars. Although this toy has made Target’s list of top toys for 2015 in the 3- to 4-year-old category, parents say this toy should not be given to any child, as the balls reportedly become easily matted into hair.

On Amazon, 33 percent of customer reviews for the Bunchems Mega Pack have only one star as of this writing. Various adults, both parents who have bought Bunchems and those who have not, have shared their experiences, remedies and opinions dealing with the toy.

"Buy this toy for someone if you hate them or their child,” wrote one of the toy’s top-scored comments. “They are the most incredible choking hazards on the planet. They bring pain and misery, tears, fighting, broken and ripped hair, and questions of one's sanity in handling life in general.”

“I am a hairstylist and spent a total of 4 hours removing these from a little girls hair today!” another reviewer wrote. “She had 45 of them matted into her hair! 4 hours of pain and $200 later ..... Not really worth it!!”

As some commenters blamed the parents, others have felt the need to defend this common misfortune.

“Kids don't have the capability to keep these away from their heads at all times,” one person wrote. “Even older children get caught up playing and can accidentally get these stuck in their hair. People should stop blaming parents and instead blame a lousy product that should be taken off the market!”

The company has made a YouTube tutorial to help parents remove the balls by using vegetable oil or conditioner. The results of this method have varied.

“Don't use conditioner--it'll just make the hair swell,” one commenter wrote. “Use WD-40 instead. It smells terrible, but they will slide right out!!”

"Or just dont buy these... this didnt work and had to cut a clients beautiful hair," read one YouTube comment. "Bad product!!"
