After speculation that his sobriety may have lapsed in light of his reported divorce with wife Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy Osbourne has spoken out to set the record straight.
The musician, who had been married to Sharon for 33 years, told Extra that rumors that he was drinking or doing drugs were untrue. "I have been sober for three and a quarter years," said Ozzy. "I have not touched drugs or alcohol in that time. Any reports that I am not sober are completely inaccurate.”
On May 9, as the news was breaking about the couple's divorce, Sharon did not appear on The Talk, the CBS show she co-hosts with Julie Chen.
"As we get started, Sharon is not here today," Chen explained, according to Extra. "There were many tabloid headlines of her and Ozzy, rumors and speculations that they have split up after nearly 34 years of marriage. Sharon understandably took today off and we are sending all of our love to her and to her family. And we ask that you do the same.”
Ozzy has had issues with addiction in the past -- in a 2013 post on Facebook he revealed that had fallen from his sobriety but was working to remain sober again. "For the last year and a half I have been drinking and taking drugs," said Ozzy, adding that he had been in a "very dark place." He shared that he was 44 days sober and apologized for letting down his friends and fans, as well as Sharon.
During the time, Sharon responded to 2013 rumors that she and Ozzy were getting a divorce by explaining that tabloids had gotten the story wrong.
"Everything that has been printed in the tabloids has been distorted," Sharon told fans on The Talk, according to E! News. "There's always a little seed of truth to everything that gets reported, but then it gets very distorted."
Some sources have indicated that the couple's recent split may have been caused by Ozzy having an extramarital affair, according to a rumor reported by Entertainment Tonight. According to a report, Ozzy may have been having an affair with Michelle Pugh, the musician's hair stylist.
Ozzy is reported to have agreed to temporarily leave the couple's home, and is reportedly staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
