Actress Olivia Wilde provoked controversy when she uploaded an image of some clothes she had purchased for her newborn baby.
A month after giving birth to her second child, Daisy Josephine, Wilde posted an image of Daisy's new clothes to Instagram.
One of the shirts said: "The Future Is Female" on it. The other said: "And Though She Be But Little, She Is Fierce."
A number of Wilde's Instagram followers took exception to the clothes, expressing outrage over the fact that they seem to elevate one gender over the other.
"The future needs to be 'People'!!" one person commented, according to the Hollywood Gossip. "Not one gender or race over another."
"Love, empathy, improve communication and cooperation, this is what the future should be," wrote another follower. "Anything else is merely a step backwards."
Others were more hostile.
"Screw you and your feminism," someone said.
"Do you realize how hypocritical and sexist that is?" asked someone else. "Libtard."
Wilde did not respond to the backlash, but several Instagram users came to her defense, while others expressed vexation that such a debate was taking place at all.
"People getting mad about a f------ baby onesie … #getalife," one user wrote.
Wilde recently finished working on the film "Black Dog, Yellow Dog," which is set to be released in 2017, according to the Daily Mail. Her next project, a film called "A Vigilante," is currently in pre-production and won't hit theaters until 2018.
