New Drone Barbie Flies On Hoverboard (Video)

Toy company Mattel unveiled its new Barbie Star Light Adventure RC Hoverboard at the 2016 International Toy Fair in New York City (video below).

The Barbie drone sports four propellers and is remotely controlled by a hand console. The toy goes on sale this fall for $59.99.

“This will certainly attract young girls, but also parents who want to buy a toy for their daughters that would interest them in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) realm but aren’t sure what type of toy would inspire that,” Rhianna Lakin, founder of a female drone pilot group called Amelia Dronehart, told MarketWatch.

“Everyone knows Barbie,” Lakin added. “If your daughter likes Barbie and she likes the drone, then that may encourage her to pursue STEM. And the next drone she flies won’t necessarily be pink.”

This new Barbie also appears to be a tie-in to a straight-to-DVD movie release this fall, "Barbie: Star Light Adventure," in which Barbie flies on a hoverboard (video below).

Mattel also debuted its new high-tech Hello Barbie Dreamhouse, which responds to verbal commands via voice-recognition software. The house can also connect to apps and is Wi-Fi enabled, reports Tech Times.

By giving verbal commands, children can customize lights, control a toy elevator, order chandeliers to spin and turn stairs into a slide.

The Hello Barbie Dreamhouse will cost $299.99, so you may want to sell your child on the drone.
