49 Birds Fly Over Vigil For Orlando Shooting Victims

A photographer captured the moment 49 birds unexpectedly flew by during a vigil for the 49 victims of the Orlando, Florida, mass shooting.

The candlelight vigil was held at the Phillips Performing Arts Center in Orlando on June 13, CNN reported.

As the names of the victims were being read, a woman noticed a group of birds flying in the sky and took a picture. After examining the photo, she noticed something that left her in shock: There were 49 birds flying together in the picture.

"I then showed everyone around me and had them count," the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told CNN. "We were all stunned."

The photographer, like many others who were in attendance, was at the vigil mourning the loss of someone she knew.

"Seeing the birds made me feel a sense of peace about the tragedy," she said.

A spokesperson for the arts center confirmed that the center did not release the birds during the vigil. Where the birds came from is still a mystery.

The photographer shared the photo on Facebook and it quickly went viral.

"There were 49 birds, my friends,” she wrote in the caption, according to CNN. “The fallen were with us tonight."

The woman added that she did not want to be identified because she wanted people to focus on the victims of the tragic shooting.

"Who took the photo is not as important as what is in it," she told CNN. "May everyone find healing and peace."

CNN also shared the photo on Facebook on June 14, and it received over 52,000 likes, 12,500 shares and 1,000 comments in just one day.
