A musician sparked outrage after sarcastically tweeting about her lost violin following the derailment of the Amtrak train she was traveling on.
Violinist and music professor Jennifer Kim sent out the controversial tweet shortly after the tragic derailment of a 238-passenger train traveling from Washington, D.C., to New York on May 12. Kim was one of the passengers on board the train. The derailment killed six people and injured more than 100.a
“Thanks a lot for derailing my train,” Kim wrote alongside a photo of a destroyed train car. “Can I please get my violin back from the 2nd car of train?”
The tweet, which was later deleted, as was Kim’s account, garnered intense backlash from those who felt it was insensitive and selfish.
Others defended the musician, saying they could understand being emotional about losing her precious instrument.
Kim, according to reports, earned a Masters degree and has served as a substitute for the National Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
