Minnesota Timberwolves Respond to Fan With Signed Basketball and Letter

A Seattle teenager, a National Basketball League fan without a team to support, sent letters to every organization in the league. Only one team, the Minnesota Timberwolves, responded.

Connor, 16, said he sent 30 hand-written letters to each team in the NBA, asking why he should root for their franchise. Connor said he has not supported a team since the Seattle SuperSonics moved to Oklahoma in 2008.

It took the teen two weeks to write the 30 letters, which he personalized for each team.

“I thought I had a better chance of getting a response that way,” he said. “It feels more personal.”

Before he heard from Chris Wright, Minnesota Timberwolves president, Connor said he hoped he would receive responses from them or the Milwaukee Bucks.

In the letter addressed to Wright and the T-Wolves, Connor said he likes the decisions made by management.

“I love what the Wolves have done lately such as drafting [Andrew] Wiggins and bringing back KG [Kevin Garnett],” Connor wrote. “I think the Timberwolves have a fair chance to earn my fandom as a diehard NBA fan.”

Wright sent back a letter outlining the Top 10 reasons to support the Timberwolves in the future, citing the accomplishments of players like Wiggins, Garnett, Zach Levine and Ricky Rubio.

“Connor, join the Timberwolves pack today,” Wright said in the letter. “Please make sure to let us know which team has earned your ‘fandom.’”

Wright also included a basketball signed by the team.

Connor said he now plans to root for the Timberwolves, regardless of whether other teams reach out to him in the future.

“I'm probably not switching teams though because a response may be an attempt to compensate for this reddit post,” he said. “Needless to say, I'm a Timberwolves fan now!”
