An unemployed teenager in England spent roughly $30,000 of his welfare money to look like David Beckham.
Jack Johnson, 19, who gets a little over $20,000 annually in benefits, has spent over a year's worth of that money on various cosmetic procedures to resemble Beckham, the Daily Mail reports.
They range from monthly tan injections to Botox and teeth fillers. Johnson says he is now planning to undergo gastric band surgery, as well as get hair transplants and a hand tattoo.
Unexpectedly, Johnson is not a soccer fan. He just loves the way Beckham looks.
"I've spent a lot of money but it's worth it completely. I've always wanted to look like him because there isn't a person on this planet who can say he is ugly," he said, the Nottingham Post reports. "I've always been a fan because he started from nothing and he has built up his image up. I love the way he looks and his personality."
English taxpayers, however, are not a fan of his new look.
"Stop spunging off the state," one Facebook user wrote. "I hope the council stop your benefits."
"If you have that much disposable income whilst on benefits, something isn't right," another person added.
However, Jack believes he has the right to use his welfare money on these treatments. In fact, he believes the English healthcare system, the NHS, should cover certain cosmetic treatments.
"I understand there are other things out there on the NHS that are important," he said. "I understand for example people who want a baby should have IVF treatment on the NHS but other people need work on their lips."
It seems he may be fairly alone in his beliefs. Jack's family is also less than pleased about his decisions.
Johnson's 25-year-old brother, Aaron, reportedly said Jack should "calm it down."
"He has gone too over the top, but there is no stopping him," Aaron said. "He wants to be famous and he's one-of-a-kind. He has got TV offers coming out from everywhere and I'm in shock. I can't believe it. If it makes him happy then we just have to support him, but deep down I think he knows he doesn't look like David Beckham."
