On April 18, a male Kansas City Royals fan was filmed punching a woman who allegedly spit on him at Kauffman Stadium (video below).
Some off-duty cops, who were working the game, arrested both the man and woman, notes TMZ. They were each charged with disorderly conduct, and made to leave the Royals-Giants game.
The video posted by the gossip site showed the man, wearing a #15 Royals jersey, give the woman a roundhouse right, which knocked her backward; a yellow-shirted stadium worker witnessed the incident.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that multiple witnesses asserted that the woman had hit and spit on the man several times before he threw the punch.
The woman reportedly did not sustain any serious injuries, and refused medical care.
The Kansas City Police Department identified the man and woman as Edmond Lee Stryker and Amy Lynn Blake, reports The Kansas City Star.
Toby Cook, the Royals’ vice president of publicity, told what he knew about the battle:
There were two people that we know of that were involved that were cited at the game. They were both kicked out of the stadium. Now it’s a police matter and there is a court date in May.
Unfortunately we do have fights that will happen in the stands and we get the police involved immediately. It is rare. Most of our police-involved incidents at the stadium involve someone having too much alcohol. ... It just doesn’t happen very often.
In more bizarre sports news, a tennis match was paused because of a couple who were having loud sex in a residence near the Sarasota Open in Florida on April 18, reports the New York Post.
Frances Tiafoe and Mitchell Krueger stopped play as groaning sounds filled the air.
As the moaning continued, announcer Mike Cation mistook it for porn on someone's cell phone: "Well, that is the most bizarre situation. I don’t know how to put this, folks, but somebody’s phone is going off in the stands, and it was an adult video."
However, the beautiful agony kept going on, and prompted Cation to say: "Nope, that’s not a phone, that’s an apartment across the lake. Well, everyone was looking around to see where that was coming from and finally figure out, that wasn’t a video. At least somebody’s having a good night."
Cation later tweeted: "Much love to the couple with the windows open across the way! Sounds like you guys had a good time!"
Tiafoe was skeptical of the orgasmic entertainment, and said on the court, "It can’t be that good!"
