Talk show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel got choked up on his show on July 28 as he blasted a Minnesota dentist for killing a beloved lion in Zimbabwe (video below).
On July 28, the world learned that Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer hunted Cecil the lion, who is famous in Zimbabwe, after he paid around $50,000 to make the kill. When the story broke, people from all over the world were outraged.
On his show last night, Jimmy Kimmel had to hold back tears as he talked about the situation.
“The big question is: Why are you shooting a lion in the first place?” Kimmel asked. “I'm honestly curious to know why a human being would feel compelled to do that. How is that fun?
“Is it that difficult for you to get an erection that you need to kill things that are stronger than you?”
The comedian went on to compare Palmer to accused rapist actor Bill Cosby.
“If that's the case, they have a pill for that," he said. "It works great. Just stay home and swallow it, and you save yourself a lifetime of being the most hated man in America who never advertised Jell-O pudding on television.”
Kimmel went on to make clear that he isn’t necessarily against hunting, but he doesn’t see the reason why someone would want to hunt a lion.
By the end of his monologue, Kimmel got choked up as he asked viewers to donate to the WildCru Wildlife Conservation Research Unit.
“If you want to make it into a positive,” Kimmel concluded, “maybe we can show the world that not all Americans are like this jackhole here.”
