The Internet is filled with heartwarming proposals, from a flash mob in a park to popping the question on YouTube. But this love story may be one of the sweetest to date.
In the video below, 38-year-old Salvatore, who has Down syndrome, decided to ask his girlfriend Caterina, who also has the genetic disorder, to move in with him, according to the Daily Mail.
With the help of an a capella group singing Norah Jones’s hit single, “Come Away With Me,” Salvatore surprises Caterina at the McDonald’s where she works. Then, Salvatore emerges and goes down on one knee, holding a box that contains a key to the new home they will be living in together.
Customers look on as he asks her, “Would you come live with me, my love?” Caterina says yes before breaking down in tears of joy.
The video, titled “The Special Proposal,” was filmed by CoorDown, Italy’s national association of people with Down's, to commemorate World Down Syndrome Day. The video was first published by Fast Company.
At the end of the proposal, viewers are presented with the message, “Just like Salvatore and Caterina, many couples dream of one day living together. Let's help them realize this dream.”
