Wyoming Girl Decides Not To Walk At High School Graduation, Surprises Grandmother At Hospital (Video)

High school graduation is a milestone event in a person’s life, but one Wyoming girl’s grandmother wasn’t able to make it to the ceremony because she was recovering from brain surgery.

In addition, Sharon Thompson, 70, underwent a bone marrow transplant for leukemia a few months before surgery, which made traveling to her granddaughter Taylor’s graduation in Cody, Wyoming, difficult, according to the San Francisco Globe.

So the graduate decided to give her loving grandma a surprise she would never forget.

As Thompson watched the live stream on a television from her Houston hospital room, the announcer says, “The next graduate is not here this evening because she has a surprise for someone special in her life… Dressed in her cap and gown, our graduate is going to walk into her grandmother’s hospital room as I call her name… Taylor Jean Thompson.”

“It was just the best moment,” Taylor told Cody Enterprise.

According to Thompson, her granddaughter loves to play pranks on her.

“Oh my gosh it was the surprise of a lifetime. Really wonderful, it made my day,” she added. “My husband didn’t even know. You know they had to keep it real quiet in Cody because word gets around.”

Thompson remained in the hospital for another two months for weekly treatments before being released.

The video, titled “Grandmother’s Graduation Surprise,” has gone viral, racking up more than 600,000 views since it was first posted to YouTube.
