Fernand Gautreau is a homeless man who dresses up as Santa Claus for the locals in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, every Christmas. However, this year, his red Santa suit was stolen by thieves (video below).
Gautreau, who has slept on the streets for about three years, also lost his bag, blanket, bicycle and clothes to the crooks, notes CBC News and Global News.
Gautreau, 64, told Aleisha MacPherson, a local resident, about the theft and she posted his story online.
“I was like, how could someone be so cruel to someone who is less fortunate?” MacPherson told Global News.
Claude St. Coeur, a former Santa himself, and his wife, Sharon Leger, saw the online posting. They delivered a Santa suit, a new bike and a trailer (for the bike) to Gautreau at a local homeless shelter, according to CBC News.
“I had put the suit away and I said, 'Well, maybe someday I can give it to somebody to put it to good use,'" St. Coeur told Global News.
Gautreau said the new suit has changed his life. He plans to go into detox for alcoholism in the new year.
"Everybody deserves a second chance in life," St. Coeur added.
