A football player for Linden High School took the helmet off a Immaculata High School player and hit him with his own gear last Friday night in New Jersey (video below).
The Linden player got flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, but was not kicked out of the game. The Immaculata player was taken to a local hospital where he received 10 stitches. The players' names have not been released.
The Linden Police Department says the incident, which occurred during the second quarter at Linden's Tiger Stadium, is under investigation by the Juvenile Bureau, notes WABC.
Linden Public Schools superintendent Danny Robertozzi said in a statement: "An investigation by administration is taking place and disciplinary consequences will be issued accordingly. Due to student confidentiality, no further comments will be released."
Immaculata Athletic Director Tom Gambino told NJ.com:
When I saw the video, I contacted the NJSIAA and Steve Yesinko, the Linden athletic director. And I just wanted to say that the Athletic director and coach have been very cooperative, very apologetic. We've been in touch the whole time, and their first concern was how our kid was doing, and he is doing fine.
