Ronda Rousey’s Response To Rival Meisha Tate’s Win

A long-standing rivalry involving Ronda Rousey took a hit when Miesha Tate defeated Holly Holm at UFC 196 on March 5, taking home the belt and making an amazing comeback.

Tate had one of the most dramatic victories in UFC history by choking Holm unconscious right before the fifth round ended.

When asked at the post-fight news conference what his plans were for Tate, UFC president Dana White said on “SportsCenter” that Rousey-Tate III would be the newly crowned women’s bantamweight champion’s first order of business, according to Yahoo Sports.

After the championship, Tate was clearly enjoying her first moments as a UFC champion and said, "The right move feels like drinking a Budweiser and eating cupcakes."  Tate's nickname is "Cupcake."

She added, "My job as the champion is to fight the next best person, so whoever that is, I'll fight them."

Meanwhile, Rousey -- the former bantamweight champion -- didn’t actually watch Tate snatch the title from Holm, according to White.

“Ronda wasn’t watching the fight. I text Ronda and she said, ‘What happened?'” White said. “I said, ‘Miesha just choked her unconscious,’ and she said, ‘Looks like I’ve got to get back to work.'”

Though Rousey had said before that she was rooting for Holm so she could avenge her only loss to Holm in November, according to New York Post. Instead, Rousey will have to fight Tate, who has never won, but has lost twice to Rousey in her career.

“I think that Ronda now will fight Miesha Tate for the title. That’s what’s going to happen,” White said. “That’s what I said before this fight even happened. Whoever wins tonight will fight Ronda for the title.”

Experts are predicting that Rousey will return to the ring in October, after filming two movies that she is cast in. Considering Rousey’s disdain for Tate, the comeback could happen sooner than expected.

“She’s scheduled to not come back until October or November, but it doesn’t mean I can’t ask,” White said.
