Nothing is better than a sweet slice of watermelon on a hot summer day, so here are a few other ways to enjoy this succulent fruit than just eating it out of the rind.
In the clip (below), titled “3 Things You Should Be Making With Watermelon,” Food Network shows us how to make hot charred watermelon wedges, watermelon pizza, and, for the grownups, watermelon shot glasses.
For the charred watermelon, mix 1 tablespoon each of chili powder, salt, sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon cayenne in a bowl or plate. Heat a cast-iron pan on high heat. Coat each side of the watermelon wedges with the spice mixture and place in the pan for 1 to 2 minutes. Char the other side of each wedge for another 1 to 2 minutes.
To make watermelon pizza, on a large plate, sprinkle 1/2 cup arugula, 1/4 cup each of feta cheese and chopped walnuts on one 1/2-inch-thick slice seedless watermelon. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 tablespoon of walnut oil. Slice into wedges before serving.
According to SheKnows.com, to make watermelon shot glasses, scoop out watermelon balls using a 1-1/2-inch ice cream scooper. Cut a small slice off the bottom before carefully using a melon baller to scoop the insides out from the top.
