A 7-month-old baby whose car seat was ejected 25 feet from the vehicle after a car crash only suffered a bruise on the head, WHIO reports.
When sheriff deputies in Montgomery County, Ohio, were called to the scene of a car accident in a which a baby was flung 25 feet, they feared the worst.
Lashanda Goldsmith was in her van with her 7-month-old baby Madison and a 15-year-old girl when witnesses say a car ran a red light and struck their vehicle.
Baby Madison was ejected through the car window on impact, still strapped to her car seat. She was found face-down about 25 feet from the scene of the crash.
Authorities approached Madison and turned her car seat over. That’s when something miraculous happened.
“They said her eyes were closed, literally closed and she was face down in the car seat,” Alicia Lewis, Goldsmith’s aunt, told WHIO. “When they flipped her over they thought she was dead. Then they said her eyes opened and she started smiling.”
That’s right. The 7-month-old baby was unfazed by the accident. Madison suffered only a bruise on the head while Goldsmith suffered minor injuries. They were both taken to a nearby hospital and released shortly after.
“Looking at (Madison) like, wow, she doesn’t even know what’s going on,” Lewis said. “She was the one in trauma and we’re traumatized but she’s not.”
The 15-year-old girl remains in hospital and is listed in serious condition. Five people were injured in the crash, which deputies say involved a van, a car and a semitrailer.
The driver who caused the accident fled the scene but was caught soon after by authorities.
The family is thankful baby Madison is unharmed.
“God does not make mistakes — I tell people that all the time,” said Rhonda Moody, a close family member. “When things happen, it’s all in His will.”
