Exoskeleton Helping Paraplegics Walk

It started out as a project for a few college students. But after years of work, this incredible new technology is giving paraplegics the ability to walk on their own two feet again:

This student-built exoskeleton is helping paraplegics walk. It’s called the Varileg and it works just like the human knee. The exoskeleton connects to the user’s crutches, giving them the ability to control their direction and speed. It can climb stairs, sit down and cross uneven terrain. Students at Eth Zurich work on the exoskeletons for school. They’ve spent the last 2 years perfecting the design. This will give people the ability to adapt to unexpected obstacles, which will also make them more flexible to walk.
